A simple, effective weekly training plan designed specifically for new players — from Gotta Go Gotta Throw
Starting out in disc golf can feel overwhelming. Between learning proper form, building distance, and improving accuracy, it’s hard to know where to focus. That’s why we created this simple Beginner Disc Golf Training Routine to help you improve quickly and have more fun on the course.
Beginner Disc Golf Training Routine (3–4 Days Per Week)
Day 1 & 3: Field Work (Technique & Distance)
Goal: Build clean form and increase distance.
- Warm-up (10 minutes): Light stretching + short tosses with a putter.
- Putting Drills (15 minutes): Practice from 10, 20, and 30 feet. Focus on consistency.
- Midrange Throws (15–20 minutes): Work on straight shots and slight turnovers.
- Driver Throws (15–20 minutes): Focus on smooth releases rather than power.

Day 2 & 4: Short Game & Accuracy
Goal: Improve scoring from 150 feet and in.
- Putt for Score (20 minutes): Set a goal (make 15 out of 20 from 20 feet).
- Approach Shots (20 minutes): Practice upshots from 50–120 feet.
- Hyzer & Anhyzer Drills (15 minutes): Learn to shape shots.

Weekly Course Play
- Play at least one full round per week.
- Focus on one skill per round (ex: “Today I’m only throwing hyzers”).
- Keep score but don’t stress about it — focus on learning.

Pro Tips for Faster Improvement
- Film your throws — Use your phone to record form and compare to good examples.
- Start slow — Focus on smooth, controlled throws instead of trying to throw hard.
- Use lightweight discs — Lightning discs are ideal because they’re easy to throw.
- Practice with purpose — Don’t just throw randomly. Have a goal for every session.
- Be patient — Most beginners see big improvements after 4–6 weeks of consistent practice.
