Why This Event Is Different

Same Course. Brand-New Rules.

The Preserve Championship has crowned singles winners since 2020. In 2026 it's rewritten for doubles — a format overhaul championed by Simon Lizotte and Black Bear designer Cale Leiviska, who worked directly with the DGPT Player Council to build a structure that actually shows off two-person disc golf at its best.

Rounds 1 & 2

Best Shot

Both players in a team throw every shot. After each throw, the pair plays on from whichever disc landed better — continuing shot by shot until a putt drops. If the first player to putt makes it, their partner doesn't need to throw.

Round 3 · Sunday

Alternate Shot

Partners trade every throw from tee to basket. Each player must take exactly 9 tee shots across the round, never teeing off more than twice in a row. The format mirrors the rules used at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu.

The Voices Behind It

“I've been hoping and waiting for a top-level doubles event for a long time. I love doubles — it's been a huge part of my disc golf story, and this format always brings out the most fun, exciting golf I've ever seen.”

Black Bear at the Preserve

Designed by Cale Leiviska inside the Airborn Disc Golf Preserve, Black Bear cuts through open fields and dense hardwoods with sightlines out toward the Mississippi River. Long, technical fairways make it one of the most demanding tests on tour — the 2025 singles edition set the record for the highest-rated event in DGPT history.
